It’s not everyday that I get the chance to hold a meeting surrounded by large sharks! And I’m not referring to the many attorneys in my family!
The Two Oceans Aquarium had very kindly offered to host our Network Evening and it was suggested that we meet in the Predator Exhibit area at the aquarium. We had our largest turn-out to date at the meeting with around 60 service providers attending.
Upon arrival we were met in the foyer of the aquarium and treated to a delicious Kir Royal cocktail.
Full marks to the staff at the Two Oceans Aquarium, who are to be commended for the speed with which they managed to transform the area into a very attractive meeting spot. Our meeting was scheduled for 6.30pm and they had to wait until all visitors to the aquarium had left (they close at 6pm) before they were able to set out chairs, podium, tables, etc.
On entering the Preditor Exhibit area service providers were greeted with a delicious assortment of canapés including satay chicken skewers with peanut dipping sauce; mini butternut and feta quiches; Thai bowls of old fashioned fish and chips and Moroccan meatballs with tzatziki dipping sauce.
I was quite glad that the sharks were swimming behind me while I gave my talk and not in front as I fear I might have been mesmerised by them. My talk mainly covered what we had planned for our forthcoming Wedding Festival and I also shared a few bits of Royal Wedding trivia I had come across in my research.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Ted Hollyhoke of Risk Benefit Solutions who had kindly agreed to talk to us on the all-important Consumer Protection Act. A lively discussion followed Ted’s address with some interesting comments from the audience. Many commented that it had made them realise the importance of this new Act and the ways it would affect their business.
After the meeting and a walk around the Aquarium we gathered back in the Predator Exhibit area where I had the pleasant task of cutting our beautiful birthday cake.
As Celebration House had opened in March, 15 years ago, we decided it was a good occasion to celebrate with a cake and our thanks to Irma of High Tea for the awesome chocolate mousse cake she made for the event. We can certainly recommend the cake as it was a chocoholic’s dream – rich and chocolaty and highly enjoyed by all. The perfect end to a great evening!
A very big THANK YOU once again to the Two Oceans Aquarium for all they did to ensure the evening was a success.
Our thanks too, to StephenC Photography, for being on hand to capture the highlights of the evening.
